The European Parliament is expediting the process to approve a reparations loan for Ukraine by voting on the proposal at the January 2026 plenary session. The loan aims to support Ukraine's financial needs, state budget, military capabilities, defense industry, and integration into the European Defense Industrial Base. MEPs will adopt a position on the proposal before negotiating with member state governments. The proposal will also need approval from EU member states in the Council, with discussions expected during the EU summit in December 2025.
