Press release – Parliament greenlights first-ever European defence industry programme

The European Parliament approved a new law to strengthen the EU defense industry through the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP), which includes increased support for Ukraine and emphasizes a "Buy European" principle. The program aims to enhance defense capabilities, promote joint procurement, and boost European defense manufacturing. It includes a budget of €1.5 billion, with a portion allocated to the Ukraine Support Instrument. The program also allows for additional funds from member states and the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The EDIP is seen as a significant step towards enhancing European defense capabilities and fostering defense industry autonomy.
