Parliament has approved the renewal of the EU's trade preferences for developing countries, aiming to aid in poverty eradication. The updated rules include new human rights and environmental conventions for participating countries, with conditions for withdrawn preferential treatment on migrant cooperation. Safeguards for the EU rice sector were also introduced. The system is seen as a driver of sustainable growth and fair globalization. Upon formal adoption by the EU Council, the legislation will apply for a decade, continuing the EU's efforts to support over 60 countries and 2 billion people.
