The European Parliament has approved new rules to protect farmers from unfair trading practices by buyers of agricultural products. Member states will be empowered to prevent, investigate, and penalize cross-border unfair practices independently. Additionally, measures are put in place to address unfair practices by non-EU buyers, facilitate information exchange between EU countries, and ensure prompt and coordinated responses. The legislation seeks to create a fair and transparent agri-food supply chain while awaiting approval from the Council.
