The International Trade Committee has adopted measures to protect the EU steel market from global overcapacity, including lower import quotas, increased custom duties, and better traceability of imported steel goods. A ban on steel imports from Russia and Belarus was also proposed. The steel industry is considered a strategic priority for Europe, with the aim to support resilience and competitiveness. The draft regulation is intended to comply with WTO rules and aims to be finalized in negotiations with the Council.
