The European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee has chosen Andrés Ritter as its preferred candidate for the next European Chief Prosecutor, with 46 votes in his favor. The Parliament is now set to negotiate with the Council for the appointment, which will be for a seven-year term. The current Chief Prosecutor, Laura Codruța Kövesi, was the first to hold the position.
