Press release – EU support to help 507 Belgian workers find a new job

The European Parliament approved €2 million in EU aid to support 507 Belgian workers who lost their jobs after the bankruptcy of Liberty Steel Belgium. The aid, mobilized from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund, will cover career counseling, vocational training, and assistance for those seeking to start their own businesses. The bankruptcy was attributed to financial difficulties faced by Liberty Steel, worsened by market conditions and ownership-related issues. The EGF has supported over 181,000 people in 20 member states since 2007, disbursing €727 million.
