Press release – Discharge: MEPs sign off on the management of the EU’s budget in 2024

MEPs have approved the European Commission's management of the 2024 EU budget but have raised concerns about rule of law issues impacting the use of EU funds due to backsliding in several member states. Despite a lower error rate, they warn that this does not necessarily indicate improved financial management. Transparency on final beneficiaries of the Recovery and Resilience Facility funding is requested. The Council's discharge was postponed due to lack of cooperation with MEPs. MEPs call for stronger action on rule of law issues and transparency in EU funds management.
