New EU rules aim to enhance sustainability in the automotive sector by promoting improved vehicle design for easier material removal, setting binding targets for recycled materials, reinforcing producer responsibility for end-of-life vehicles, and strengthening export regulations for used vehicles. The regulation covers the entire vehicle lifecycle and emphasizes the circular economy approach. The proposed rules are focused on advancing resource security, protecting the environment, and ensuring sustainability without overburdening the industry. The report is set for adoption during the September plenary session, following a successful committee vote with broad support.
