Press release – Deforestation law: Parliament adopts changes to postpone and simplify measures

The EU Parliament has made changes to the deforestation law to fight climate change and biodiversity loss by ensuring products in the EU are not from deforested land. The amendments allow for an additional year for businesses to comply with the regulations, simplifies due diligence requirements, and excludes printed products. The goal is to protect at-risk forests while being practical for businesses. The changes must still be endorsed by the Council before entering into force by the end of 2025. The original regulation targeted products like cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, wood, rubber, and cattle products linked to global deforestation.
