Press release – Circular economy: deal on new EU rules for the automotive sector

The EU has reached a provisional agreement on new circularity rules for the automotive sector, covering the entire vehicle lifecycle. The agreement includes improved vehicle design for easier dismantling, binding targets for recycled materials in new vehicles, reinforced producer responsibility for end-of-life vehicle treatment, and stricter rules for end-of-life management and export, with a focus on resource security, environmental protection, and sustainability. Approval by both Parliament and Council is required before the new rules can be enforced.
