MEPs have endorsed a proposal for a digital pre-clearance system that enables travelers to create digital travel credentials based on their identity documents to speed up border crossings at EU external borders while ensuring security. The system aims to reduce waiting times by allowing certain checks to be carried out beforehand. The proposal includes measures to protect personal data and ensure interoperability with existing EU border information systems. The system is expected to start 18 months after the regulation's entry into force, improving border procedures for both citizens and authorities.
