EP leaders visited Cyprus to lay the groundwork for cooperation ahead of the country's Presidency of the Council in 2026. The Cypriot Presidency aims to enhance the EU's autonomy and bring the EU closer to the region. Effective cooperation with the European Parliament is emphasized, with the EP committee chairs invited to informal Council meetings. The shared goal is to strengthen Europe's competitiveness, improve lives, and ensure a secure Union while supporting Ukraine and upholding EU values. Cyprus will hold the Council Presidency from January to June 2026, followed by Ireland. A dialogue with European students addressed security, democracy, migration, and youth participation in EU projects.
